This £100k project was for the refurbishment of an existing shelter for the homeless. The 20 week project for Bournemouth Houses Association was completed in August 2014.
The existing building was in a sad state with the existing roof leaking and timber windows rotten and broken. Firstly the entire building was scaffolded and then we undertook specialist roof testing and applied good practice to the rectification of numerous issued around the roof and lantern levels. The problems lay with the internal parapet gutters which were filling and leaking, so this together with hoppers and downpipes which couldn’t manage the volume of water caused leaks in a number of locations.
The windows were removed one at a time and replaced with new upvc sliding sashes which allow easy cleaning and are low maintenance.
Gutters and hoppers were repaired and replaced and new larger downpipes solved the issue of removing water from the roof level.
